Spanish language enjoys a very contradictory status in the United States, it is a language spoken by a considerable portion of the population, but it is still seen as a minor language. In this article, I begin with a series of reflections on the role of Spanish in that country, especially on its relationship with the media and American culture, in an attempt to construct a portrait of the state of that language today. I also reflect on the growing recovery movements of Spanish by the new generations of Latinxs in the country, especially through the teaching of Spanish as a heritage language.
