Abstract

This essay is about the criticism Pico della Mirandola made of the philologists of his time. It will be shown especially through two letters Pico wrote: one to Ermolao Barbaro, and the other to Lorenzo di Medicis. The first part will deal with Pico as a humanist and philologist himself. The second will point out the criticism Pico wrote about the Rhetoric. This is a way to present the perfect association Pico wants of the beauty of the discourse and the deepness of thought he found in Lorenzo’s verses, as will be shown in the third part.
