In this article, we start from the concept of gender-sensitive journalism to propose the incorporation of characteristics and elements specific to sound in the construction of gender-sensitive sound journalism. Essayistic and propositional in nature, the research considers gender as a category and discusses discursive constructions and materialities specific to audio objects in gender-sensitive journalism.

Podcasts, corpus and sensitive topics: a methodological proposal for ableism and femicide

This article aims to show possible ways to address two sensitive social issues, whose related laws complete 10 years in 2025: ableism (Brazilian Law for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities) and feminicide (qualifier of heinous crimes). And from them, reflect on two instances that we consider fundamental in the second era of podcasting (Bonini, 2020), being both production, circulation and listening, as well as scientific research focused on this media. Based on this study, five steps were developed that seek to carefully address the intertwining of these sensitive topics. The methodological exercise was designed considering factors such as intersectionality (Collins, Bilge, 2021), plural epistemologies (Lopez, Betti and Freire, 2025), communicative accessibility (Bonito, 2020) and hospitable language (Pessoa, 2019).

Radio Communication through the Lens of Plural Epistemologies: representations of the Contemporary Beauty Standard in the Café da Manhã Podcast

This study aims to investigate how radio communication can contribute to the (re)construction of representations of the contemporary beauty standard, fostering critical reflection on the topic. As the empirical object, we selected an episode of the Café da Manhã podcast that discusses the 2024 Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Our analysis is grounded in the perspective of plural epistemologies, and we adopt intersectionality as our theoretical–methodological framework. We understand the beauty ideal through four fundamental values: health, thinness, whiteness, and youth. For the analysis, we employ the Spotlight Methodology, which allows us to illuminate three main narrative axes: the beauty standard, fashion, and intersectionality. The findings suggest that the podcast portrays the current beauty ideal as exclusionary, highlighting the role of fashion and the intersectional dynamics that shape the (in)visibility of certain bodies.

This article aims to understand how the Tramas Coloniais podcast discusses and presents a critique of hegemonic knowledge, revisiting the history of colonialism and valuing the local perspective of African nations. To this end, it conducts a descriptive analysis, considering the pedagogical strategies employed in the narrative and the specificity of the sound object from a plural epistemological perspective.

True Crime in podcast: reflections from a sound perspective

This work proposes methodological paths for the analysis of True Crime from an prominently sonic perspective, prioritizing elements such as music, effects, and silence. While recognizing the centrality of words in the constitution of radio language, it understands that it is possible to invest in approaches focused on the study of non-verbal components. Therefore, it discusses the narrative codes proposed by Punnett (2018) for the analysis of podcasts on real crimes, identifying how they manifest in Brazilian productions beyond spoken content.

Hodor Cavalo and the Beterrabas em Fúria: dynamics between the podcast and its fans

The dynamics between podcast fans and the media have developed in recent years, generating new ways for fans to engage, especially with narrative podcasts. The aim of this article is to understand the dynamics between the hosts and the engaged audience of the Hodor Cavalo podcast, based on observing the phenomenon of podcasting, in which, in addition to the listening experience, other elements and other media are added, including social networking platforms. We analyzed its first five episodes and the first five posts on the website www.hodorcavalo.com.br. Studies on podcasting provide support for the discussion, with Lopez and Alves (2019), Viana (2023), Lopez (2024) and Kischinhevsky (2024). For the relationships between fans and objects of devotion, we bring in Shirky (2011), Jenkins, Green and Ford (2014), Lopez and Homssi (2021) and Evans (2020). We used Bardin's (2016) exploratory content analysis as a research method. We concluded that the hosts did little to exploit their audience's potential for engagement, with few responses to comments.

METHODOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE OF RADIO STUDIES FROM 2000 TO 2022

This article presents part of an exploratory research that systematizes the methodologies used in works that study radio, approved for the Annual Meeting of the National Association of Graduate Programs in Communication (Compós), between 2000 and 2022. The investigation, described here as a case study, was supported by the Systematic Review (Galvão; Ricarte, 2019; Lopez, 2023), associated with the proposal of a methodological architecture (Lopes et al, 2024), which mapped the methodology indicated in the topics: abstract, keywords, introduction, development and reference. After the analysis, it was observed that the methodology did not occupy a relevant space in radio studies at Compós events until 2022.

From sound waves to scientific productions: mapping of academics who have worked and/or work in radio

This article maps out the women academics in the Radio and Sound Media Research Group of Intercom (Brazilian Society for Interdisciplinary Communication Studies) and the Thematic Group on Sound Media History of ALCAR (Brazilian Association of Media History Researchers) who have worked or currently work in radio. Through exploratory research (MARTINO, 2018; GIL, 2002), 38 women were identified. Subsequently, an online questionnaire (Google Forms) was distributed, and 27 of them responded to semi-structured questions. All have worked in commercial, educational/public, or community radio and have successful careers with extensive experience. Many of them, now professors at various public and private universities in Brazil, coordinate extension and research projects dedicated to sound media.
