Abstract

The doctor is responsible for caring for others, not discarding his own need for care. It is indisputable the routine, often excruciating, of the doctor, and its respective consequences on physical, emotional and spiritual health. The beginning is early, before the medical student or even before. Medicine is built on an intellectual basis, however strongly psychological, since issues such as grief and loss essentially characterize important obstacles in medical practice due to the lack of adequate preparation. Thus, an awareness-raising proposal was developed, the course The Healer's Art (H'ART), “The art of those who fully heal”, in favor of medical students' self-knowledge, with empathy and focus on medical education. The course was developed in five meetings, in groups, which worked on self-reflection and quality of life, based on absolute respect between participants, in a safe environment. Among the various topics discussed, such as loss, grief and mental health, "Caring for the soul: service as a way of life" was also included in the last meeting. In conclusion, the course provided a sphere of knowledge in its plurality, punctuating the importance of self-care and human values and elevating students to a stage of greater solidity for medicine as a whole.
