Extension experiences in times of pandemic: An experience report

Abstract

Food and nutrition education is an important factor for health promotion and disease prevention, and extension projects can perform actions aimed at the population's quality of life. The aim of this article is to describe the activities carried out by a student of the Nutrition course at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) as a scholarship holder of the project "Nutritional care for adolescents at an Application College: educational actions for health promotion and disease prevention" in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to promote the health and quality of life of students of the college. Due to the pandemic, the actions were adapted to the remote context, including meetings on a digital platform, preparing posts for social networks and developing abstracts for events. In this way, the actions contributed to orienting adolescents about food and nutrition and to promoting greater visibility for the project, which was also essential in the training of the scholarship holder, as it helped in the development of skills regarding digital platforms, content production and oratory. Therefore, carrying out extension activities during the pandemic period was a challenge and at the same time, proved to be of great relevance for health promotion.
