Study of the health situation and needs of the community of Antônio Pereira, Ouro Preto-MG: First phase

Abstract

This study presents the first stage of the research project “In-depth study of the situation and health needs of Antônio Pereira, district of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, which integrates the actions of the extension and research program “Hand in hand with Antônio Pereira” coordinated by the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), Federal Institute of Minas Gerais (IFMG) and Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). The objective of the project is to carry out an in-depth study on the health situation and needs of the community of Antônio Pereira, in the context of the risk of rupture and the decommissioning work of the Doutor Dam. At this stage of the quantitative, descriptive comparative study, data was collected from DATASUS and E-SUS, from the Health Surveillance of the Ouro Preto Health Department and from the district's health strategy team, documentary analysis of historical sources and interventions in the territory. As results, we have a historical line with the health needs and situations in the district over time and the district's health indicators and epidemiological data. We point to the emerging need to include health in an active and guided way in the reparation processes of communities affected by industrial mining activities.
