Abstract

With the lack of resources of time, lie to get rid of a conviction or lie to harm a person, would not constitute simple acts being performed? Through consultation of scanned documents in the National Archives of Torre do Tombo site and analysis of Antonio de Melo Lobo process, I seek to answer this question. Portraying how complex the whole proceeding was a process of inquisitorial jurisdiction, try to show through the analysis of a process, as the Holy Office could be used as a tool of revenge. In this work also show that not every case was treated in the same way; to analyze the crimes of blasphemy and heretical propositions, note that the social condition of the accused, the words spoken and repentance were instrumental in establishing a process would be lengthy and complex or with a quick and simple outcome.
