Abstract
This study aims at investigating the process which included the French language in the public schools of the province of Minas Gerais in the early decades of the XIX century. During that time, a strong cultural influence of the French language was marked by the circulation of printed materials, which suggested France as being a powerhouse when it came to both knowledge production and commercialization. It is in such context that the French language emerged as a public school subject in 1831.Downloads
