Collins Cobuild Intermediate Learner’s Dictionary

Abstract

This book review presents the fourth edition of Collins Cobuild Intermediate Learner’s Dictionary (HANDS; MACAULAY, 2018). First, the analysis focus on principles that underlie the compilation of this dictionary. Then, information in the articles is correlated with the linguistic functions of reception and production. Finally, information on the final pages of the dictionary is remarked on, especially their usefulness to production tasks. In conclusion, Collins Cobuild Intermediate Learner’s Dictionary magisterially describes the English language. However, the user may have considerable knowledge of English grammar to consult it. Among Brazilian learners, perhaps BA students in the English language and English teachers are the ones who can have the benefit of the dictionary.
