A construção social da Voz na performatividade do gênero
uma análise prosódica no falar transgênero feminino
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the role of prosody in the social construction of the voice in MTF trans women. To do so, we’ve chosen to work with extracts of videos in the following Youtube channels: Christian Figueiredo and PC Siqueira (cisgender men), Kéfera Buchmann and Niina Secrets (cisgender women), and Mandy Candy and Thiessa (transgender women). We’ve agreed on the choice of videos in the #answer text genre to have more credibility in comparison to each other (BAKHTIN, 1952-1953); we’ve also decided to do it due to prosodic aspects (BARBOSA, 2012). Our acoustic analysis showed that the trans group has tracts that are perceived and descripted as feminine: as the hormone therapy does not change the voice of MTF trans people, it’s possible to say that they might use this feature as a way to show gender performativity, shaping their voices as a social construct (BARROS FILHO, 2005). We observed that the pitch range of the trans group was as high as the cis women. The perception test showed that the trans women we studied have a feminine passability because their voices were evaluated as more feminine than masculine. There were some misconceptions in the analysis of the participants in Christian’s voice excerpts, which are almost as high-pitched as the women’s results. That show that the categories of femininity and masculinity are not as linear as we’d supposed.
