Abstract

In a critical discussion with the philosophical theories of his predecessors, Aristotle performs a non-dualistic and non-materialistic psychology based on a hylomorphic explanation. However, when he addresses the intellect, Aristotle attributes to it predicates that differ from that explanatory guideline, such as the quality of being separate. Imagination can be understood as an intermediate faculty able to realize the mediation between the faculties that are actualizations of embodied structures and the separate intellect. The contribution of imagination in at least two intellectual demands, namely practical reasoning and theoretical reasoning, proves this mediation.
