Abstract
This paper analyses the attitudes, strategies and expectations of the regular people of Rio de Janeiro to the Monarchy, through the observation of their conceptions and representations of the imperial regime, the Emperor Dom Pedro II, the royal family, and the Crown. The paper focuses especially on the final period of Dom Pedro II reign, between 1879-1889.
