O mercado de escravos em Mariana

Abstract

This work studies Mariana’s participation in slaves trade established between 1850-1886 to relocate slave labor and mecanisms for slavery to continue of the slavery. We will try to identify, based on records of purchases and sales of slaves, the intensity, frequency and direction of the slave population that were transferred from Mariana to other regions of the province and to outside regions. This work will also study if Mariana might have drawn slave labor during this time.
This researche wich belongs the field of demography and economy will consider the peculianities concerning this region as well as give our contribuition to debates on the slave trade issue during the second half of the nineteenth century in wich Mariana is considered as being importer or exporters of slaves.
