Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze one of the most important historiographical works in Brazilian History. We compare the historic narrative of Formação do Brasil Contemporâneo with other important texts in search of similar themes, imagery and metaphors. The texts selected for our analysis are some of the recognized important works from the beginning of the XXth centure: Capítulos de História Colonial, one important work by Capistrano de Abreu; Os Sertões, the masterpiece of Euclides da Cunha, À Margem da História, another important work of this same writer, and Populações Meridionais do Brasil, the most important work of Oliveira Vianna.
