Abstract

This paper has the objective to discuss the ecclesiastic hierarchy that determines the pastoral actions and the direction of its policies and of its dioceses or archdioceses. In this way, we choose as a reference to this study, the Archdiocese of Mariana, which was considered an extremely conservative portion of the Brazilian Catholic Church until 1988. After this period, having dom Luciano Mendes de Almeida as a tutor, this archdiocese started to follow the ideals spread by the “Liberation Theology”. Having an objective to increase this study, we analyzed some international subjects as the “Council Vatican II” and the conservative policy of the Vatican, starting from the decade of 1980. We still approached local questions as the organization of the community life of the Congregation of “Nossa Senhora do Rosário” de “Brás Pires”- MG.
