the academic instruction and the composition of lawyers’ libraries in the 18th century in Minas Gerais

Abstract

This work aims to evaluate the academic instruction and the composition of the libraries of a set of lawyers, which have their activities in Vila Rica and Mariana‟s auditoriums, in the second half of 18th century. We have as hypothesis that there was a breakdown in letters‟ universe, triggered by Pombal's Reform in education. We try to analyze the effects of this change in the composition of the libraries and the legal culture in Minas Gerais.
