The place for radio studies and research challenges

Abstract

Intercom's Radio and Audio Media Research Group celebrates its 30th anniversary. In face of a celebration like this, it is necessary to understand the place of radio studies in Brazil and the main challenges of researches in radio and sound media. In order to meet this objective, we carried out a survey with two methodological movements. The first sought to understand the group's path, through its trajectory, its actions and publications. We also undertook a search in the collection of articles, making a survey of all papers accepted for presentation at the RG, at Intercom congresses, over 30 years, listing the authors, universities and keywords. The second move was to seek statements from the nine former coordinators and the current coordinator of the group, who answered the two questions that guide this investigation: What is the place of radio studies in Brazil after 30 years of the creation of the RG? What are the main challenges of research in radio and sound media? The research results point to a consolidated map of radio studies in Brazil and a vigorous, fraternal and productive research group, but it faces great challenges, including the reduction of its main object of investigation: the radio.
