The Web and the Maze

Abstract

The present article analysis the gender relations in the Cretan universe as the continuity of a mythical structure and related to the praxis of the man originated from the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods. Thus, the focus of these analysisis in the representations of the Serpents Goddess, originated from Cnossos, the bull, the double axe and the maze, elements that, attached to each other, make a connected web, full of symbols that share the reason of fecundity, fertility and life continuity, and how these elements, present in the Minos and Ariadne myth, show a matrilinear succession structure to the Crete throne. The analysis is based on the theoretical presuppositions of the Greimas Semiotics, also on the figurativeness, of the Anthropology, the Hellenistics, the Archeology and the Etymology.
