Journalistic Discourse in Times of Climate Crisis: Rádio Moçambique's Performance Between Objectivity and Subjectivity
Abstract
Mozambique is a country highly vulnerable to extreme weather events such as cyclones and tropical depressions, which have significantly affected the population's way of life. Social communication, particularly Rádio Moçambique, plays a crucial role in constructing narratives about these events. This article analyzes how journalistic discourse is constructed in the coverage of such extreme events, taking into account the lives of populations living in risk zones. The study discusses the principles of journalistic objectivity and subjectivity and explores the communication strategies used to inform and raise public awareness. The adopted methodology is qualitative, based on Discourse Analysis and the functionalist perspective of Ruth Amossy (2008), as well as the emotive approach of Didi-Huberman (2016). The work seeks to understand the intersection between affects and communication, reflecting on the role of journalism practiced by Rádio Moçambique in contexts of vulnerability and climate crisis. It aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the impact of communication in constructing narratives during emergencies, especially in relation to public perception and political responses to climate disasters. The analysis explores how emotions are expressed or evoked in media coverage.
