Forms of history and temporality:

revisiting Gumbrecht's "In 1926"

  • Marcelo Jasmin
Keywords: Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht, historiography, historical time

Abstract

The article presents some hypoteses about the historiographical construction of Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht’s In 1926 - Living at the edge of time. In a first moment, the article approaches Gumbrecht’s work and the classical formulations of Jacob Burckhardt, in his critical arguments against the philosophy of History, and in the synchronic aspects of The Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy. In a second move, the article contrasts the two historiographical works to find what is proper of Gumbrecht’s creation.
