Abstract

The article focuses on the possibilities of comparing the Critical Theory of Society and Oswald de Andrade’s Anthropophagy. The starting point is the events almost simultaneously occurred in the development of both currents of thought. Horkheimer’s contribution to the Studies on Authority and Family, in which some confluence appears between Marx, Freud, and Nietzsche, works here as a term of comparison with Andrade’s essay, The Crisis of the Messianic Philosophy, which recurs the same way. In conclusion, the article points out that, despite the philosophical solidity of the Critical Theory, overcoming Andrade’s theoretical resources powerfully, Anthropophagy shows itself more prepared for the challenges of the 21st Century since it contains a relentless critique of all types of imperialism.
