Abstract

This paper reexamines Arthur Schopenhauer's philosophy of art on the basis of his explanations of the aesthetic and philosophical significance of the experience of natural beauty and, in particular, of those kinds of art, objectified in works of art, highlighted by him, namely architecture, hydraulics, gardening, sculpture, painting, discursive arts and music. The purpose of revisiting schopenhauerian aesthetics is to understand its importance for a conception that (still) sees the experience of beauty, especially as a work of art, as a kind of communication of a content endowed with philosophical value – a conception that, incidentally, has full rights to (still) validly exist today, as long as, as pointed out in the conclusion, critically revised in some of its assumptions, taken as one more theory among others and we should not lose sight of the fact that postmodernity (in case we are already living it) is not only a “mixture” of aesthetics, but also, and perhaps above all, a coexistence of aesthetics.

Waldir Severiano Medeiros Júnior, UFMG e UNIFAL-MG

Professor de Direito no Instituto de Ciências Sociais Aplicadas (ICSA), da Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG). Pós-Doutorando em Direito e Justiça pela Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (FDUFMG). Doutor (2021) e Mestre (2016) em Direito e Justiça pela Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (FDUFMG). Bolsista integral do ProUni/Governo Federal (2006-2011). Tem experiência nas áreas do Direito e da Filosofia, com ênfase em Filosofia do Direito, Direito Constitucional e Direito Penal, e com pesquisas orientadas para temas como Teorias da Justiça, Teorias do Estado, Constitucionalismo Democrático, Teorias do Crime e Garantismo Penal.
