Abstract
In the text entitled Do irrepresentável à perpresentação: Revisitando os modos de presença nos fenômenos estéticos, Rodrigo Duarte deepens his analysis begun in 2019, discussing not only the modes of presence, but also the manifestations originated by the convergence and interactions between them. The aim of our investigation is to understand the movement that occurs from presentation towards representation, a movement in which a presented object acquires a new meaning through the discursiveness inherent in representation. Our hypothesis is that this movement helps us to understand the magic implemented by contemporary industrial fashion, which, through a discourse, is able to transform an everyday object into a fashion object.
In our analysis, we argue that the mere presentation of an object in the world would not be enough to detach it from the commonplace and transform it into ‘fashion’. It is through the discourse of representation, operated by technical images, that the ‘world of fashion’ imputes symbolic and economic value to such a common object, thus realising the magic of fashion.
