Theatre as food for thought on existence

Keywords: city, phenomenology, theater, daily life

Abstract

Based on a phenomenological approach, this piece of writing seeks to describe and analyses the interaction between actors and actresses of a collective and locals of a neighbourhood called Solar do União, located in the city of Salvador, in the federal state of Bahia, Brazil. The artists occupied the area below the arches of Solar do União’s viaduct for seven months. Over there, people pass by and locals have small business. During the laboratory, connections were developed and the daily lives of locals were involved into the creative process of artists and vice versa. Day by day, after every rehearsal, new emotions, affections, surprises and breakdowns emerged as long as that connection was growing. Gradually, this started to reflect on locals and artists as well. It is from the current phenomenological approach in which we can see / be / feel that our creative research process in theatre was born which was part of a laboratory for the show “Invisible Evil”. It is by using only Brazilian authors as reference, such as Nurit Bensusan, Angelo Serpa, Renato Ferracini, Ailton Krenak that I aim to contribute to postcolonial perspectives, necessary in my view for what we call future.
