Guideline for authors
After reading the text below, please register or log in to the system by clicking here.
These guidelines orient the submission of manuscripts to Virtualia Journal, a periodical dedicated to the areas of Philosophy, Art, and Technology. A complete reading of this document is recommended before submission, as well as of the following ARTICLE TEMPLATE (make a copy and format your article using this template, properly anonymized). In addition to the article containing a reduced CRediT-IA Statement in its body, it is necessary to submit the full CRediT-IA Statement as a PDF file at the time of submission.
Metadata provided at the time of submission are essential for indexing, archiving, distribution, and discoverability of the article. To ensure proper indexing, authors must supply metadata in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Keywords must be presented in at least two languages (preferably all three), and each keyword must be entered separately. Furthermore, the references included in the submission must exactly match the references listed at the end of the article, observing two fundamental requirements: (a) every reference cited in the body of the text must appear in the final reference list; (b) no reference should appear in the final list without having been effectively cited in the body of the text. Please note that once the submission is finalized, the author cannot modify any errors in the metadata; therefore, double attention is recommended when filling out all fields at the time of submission.
Scope and profile of texts
Virtualia Journal publishes original articles that present rigorous philosophical reflection or critical investigations at the interfaces between philosophy, art, and technology.
Priority will be given to manuscripts that demonstrate:
-
conceptual and argumentative rigor;
-
methodological clarity;
-
theoretical or critical relevance;
-
qualified dialogue with philosophical, aesthetic, or technological traditions;
-
explicit adherence to the journal's editorial scope.
The journal adopts a rigorous editorial curation and may reject texts during desk review if they do not meet the profile or the norms described herein.
General submission conditions
-
Manuscripts must be original and unpublished, not submitted simultaneously to another journal.
-
Authorship is exclusively human, with full intellectual and ethical responsibility for the content.
-
Editorial priority is given to authors affiliated with Graduate Programs, without excluding external contributions of recognized quality.
-
Author identification must be removed from the submitted file to ensure blind review.
Responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (CRediT-IA)
Virtualia Journal allows the use of Artificial Intelligence tools only in an instrumental and transparent manner, according to the journal's CRediT-IA Statement. The statement must be included in the body of the article (our article template already contains it) and submitted as a PDF document (downloaded from the submissions tab on the website's main menu).
When AI is used, authors must include a statement containing the following:
-
tool used;
-
version or model;
-
purpose of use (e.g., language revision, translation, textual organization);
-
type and limits of use;
-
explicit confirmation of full human responsibility.
AI tools cannot be authors, nor be used for autonomous generation of arguments or intellectual decisions.
Accepted languages
Manuscripts written in the following languages are accepted:
-
Portuguese;
-
Spanish;
-
English.
Manuscript length
-
Articles: between 6,000 and 10,000 words, including notes and references.
-
Critical reviews (when accepted): between 1,500 and 3,000 words.
Manuscript formatting
Manuscripts must strictly follow the format of our template and be submitted in .docx. All metadata required at submission are essential for archiving, indexing, and discoverability of the article, both in Portuguese and English, especially for Title, Abstract, and Keywords (written separately, 3 to 5 keywords maximum, in both languages). The evaluation file must not contain author identification; failure to comply may lead to rejection during desk review.
Peer review
Manuscripts are evaluated through a blind peer review process.
The reviews consider:
-
adherence to scope;
-
conceptual consistency;
-
argumentative quality;
-
theoretical relevance;
-
expository clarity.
Editorial decisions are exclusively human.
Article template
Virtualia Journal provides an article template containing:
