Guideline for authors
These guidelines govern the submission of manuscripts to the Virtualia Journal, a scholarly journal dedicated to the fields of Philosophy, Art, and Technology. Authors are strongly encouraged to read this document in full before submitting a manuscript.
1. Scope and profile of submissions
The Virtualia Journal publishes original articles that present rigorous philosophical reflection or critical investigations at the interfaces between philosophy, art, and technology.
Priority will be given to manuscripts that demonstrate:
conceptual and argumentative rigor;
methodological clarity;
theoretical or critical relevance;
qualified dialogue with philosophical, aesthetic, or technological traditions;
explicit alignment with the journal’s editorial scope.
The journal adopts a rigorous editorial curation process and may reject submissions at the desk review stage if they do not meet the profile or standards described herein.
2. General submission conditions
Manuscripts must be original and unpublished and must not be under simultaneous review by another journal.
Authorship is exclusively human, with full intellectual and ethical responsibility for the content.
Editorial priority is given to authors affiliated with Graduate Programs, without excluding external contributions of recognized academic quality.
Author identification must be removed from the submitted file in order to ensure blind review.
3. Responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (CRediT-IA)
The Virtualia Journal permits the use of Artificial Intelligence tools only in an instrumental and transparent manner, in accordance with the journal’s CRediT-IA Statement.
When AI tools are used, authors must include a declaration containing, at a minimum:
the tool used;
the version or model;
the purpose of use (e.g., linguistic revision, translation, textual organization);
the type and limits of use;
explicit confirmation of full human responsibility.
AI tools may not be listed as authors, nor used for the autonomous generation of arguments or intellectual decisions.
4. Accepted languages
Manuscripts may be submitted in:
Portuguese;
Spanish;
English.
5. Length of manuscripts
Articles: between 6,000 and 10,000 words, including notes and references.
Critical reviews (when accepted): between 1,500 and 3,000 words.
6. Manuscript formatting
Manuscripts must strictly comply with the following requirements:
6.1 File format
Format: .docx (Microsoft Word or compatible).
6.2 Page setup
Paper size: A4
Margins: 2.5 cm (top, bottom, left, and right)
6.3 Font and spacing
Font: Times New Roman
Main text size: 12
Line spacing: single
Alignment: justified
Paragraphs: no extra spacing before or after
6.4 Title and authorship
Title: centered, bold, size 18
Subtitle (if any): centered, size 12
The file submitted for review must not contain any author identification.
6.5 Abstract and keywords
Abstract: up to 150 words
Keywords: 3 to 5
An abstract and keywords in English are also required.
6.6 Citations
Direct quotations of up to three lines: within the text, enclosed in quotation marks
Long quotations: indented 4 cm, font size 11, single-spaced
6.7 Notes
Notes must be exclusively explanatory
Inserted as footnotes
6.8 References
References must follow current ABNT standards
Only works cited in the text should be included in the references list
7. Peer review
Manuscripts are evaluated through a blind peer review process.
Review reports take into account:
alignment with the scope;
conceptual consistency;
argumentative quality;
theoretical relevance;
clarity of exposition.
Editorial decisions are exclusively human.
8. Sample article
The Virtualia Journal provides a sample article below, including:
recommended article structure;
styles for titles, subtitles, quotations, and references;
typographic standardization.
Authors are strongly encouraged to use the sample article as a basis for submission.
9. Final provisions
Submission of manuscripts implies full agreement with these Guidelines for Authors and with the Editorial Policy of the Virtualia Journal.
