Use of AI
REVEMOP recognizes the transformative relevance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic research, given its potential to enhance processes and expand possibilities. However, it is essential that its use be responsible and transparent, ensuring ethics and integrity in scholarly publications. This policy establishes guidelines to ensure the ethical and appropriate use of AI tools by authors, reviewers, and editors.
Guidelines for Authors
• Any application of AI, such as translation, language editing, or reference searching, must be disclosed in the methodology or in a specific note. The use of AI for the generation of scientific content—including hypotheses, analyses, or conclusions—is strictly prohibited.
• AI tools cannot be listed as co-authors. The author must ensure that the ideas and results presented are original and their own. The use of AI for assistance (e.g., language revisions) must be declared but does not grant authorship to the tool.
• Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the data, even when AI tools are used for generation or analysis. Manipulation or distortion of data through AI will be treated as scientific misconduct.
Guidelines for Editors
• AI tools may be used for administrative tasks, such as plagiarism detection or formatting adjustments. However, editorial decisions—such as acceptance or rejection of manuscripts—must be made exclusively by human editors.
• AI may assist in suggesting reviewers or organizing manuscripts, but final decisions must always be made by a human.
• Editors must ensure that authors disclose AI usage in accordance with this policy. Failure to comply may result in the rejection of the manuscript.
Guidelines for Reviewers
• Reviewers must not base their evaluations on AI-generated content.
• Reviewers should verify whether authors have properly disclosed AI use and assess the integrity of the submitted content. Any inappropriate use must be reported to the editorial team.
The use of AI in editorial processes must ensure the confidentiality and security of sensitive data. Additionally, authors must explicitly disclose the AI tools used, their purposes, and their limitations. Further details may be included in an appendix, if necessary.
Importantly, REVEMOP encourages the submission of articles that explore the potential of AI in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), provided that the use is responsible and guarantees equity and transparency (UNESCO, 2021 – https://unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/pf0000373434).
This policy will be reviewed periodically to incorporate technological advances and best practices. Non-compliance may result in manuscript rejection, retraction, or disciplinary sanctions.
